My husband's ggg grandfather was Miles Harold Collins. He was born in VA in 1816 and it is told that his mother and father (don't know names) died when he was about 6 years old and he went to live with an uncle in NC. At 12 he ran away due to being treated as a slave boy. He later married Jane Rebecca Babb Collins which was born in NC. They resided in Macon County GA and died there. Do you have any information on this?

MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS RICHARD H. COLLINS THE SON OF MOSES G. COLLINS THE SON OF JACOB A. COLLINS JR. I ENJOYED READING THE COLLINS HISTORY, I ONLY WISH MY FATHER RICHARD HILL COLLINS 1916-1993 WAS ALIVE TO READ IT WITH ME. THANK YOU FOR THE WORK THAT WAS PUT INTO THIS HISTORY.

" I don’t know what it means that Mary A. apparently has a son, Thomas, yet is still a Collins".....Thomas was illegitimate. His mother never married. My grandmother was Thomas's granddaughter and she told me this. She said his father was a Mullins - but she didn't know who.

I'm intrigued by the history here. After my father Lynn Bradley Collins did research that I cannot locate I learned of a possible link to NC but cannot make the connection. Gladstone Elon Collins was my grandfather and married to Cleo E Collins. Gladstone came from Jackson County and was the brother of Sarah Collins Adams who still resides near Jefferson. Any connection would be of great value as I understand these Collins were connected with the Gainsville-based Collins but I cannot find the link.
