Thomas Ludwell Langford son of Mary Collins is my great great grandfather. I am very interested in this part of the family tree.
my email address is email@example.com
I am looking for any information on Mary Collins who was married to Thomas Stephen Roberts (b. 1803 in North Carolina) I believe she died in Cherokee County, GA year 1854. She is my gr. gr. gr. grandmother. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
I wonder if the "unknown daughter born 1810" to Jacob Archibald Collins, Jr. and Jane Hardin is my gr gr gr grandmother Mary Collins that married Thomas Stephen Roberts talked about above.
My dad has passed on some pictures and a written family tree of all decendents starting with jacob collins sr.
Thomas Roberts married elizabeth (born 1810) and had 5 children. It was not mary that thomas roberts was married too.
Lt. Col. Benjamin Franklin was my 1st cousin 3x removed. He is interred at Historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. along side two of his daughters... Willie McCollum Tuggles and Evelyn McCollum Cox Barksdale Heisman (first wife of footbal legend John William Heisman).
Can anyone tie this family to my "Martin Collins".
I have been following this family for many years and have never been able to tie my "Martin Collins" with this family.
Here is some background, and hopefully it might tie to this family. Martin Collins was born in NC/SC either 1799 or 1800. He lists NC in one census, and SC in another. This leads me to believe that he was born in an area of NC/SC that shifted from one state to the other. He shows up in the Bedford Co. TN census in 1830. He moves to Washington Co. Arkansas in 1850.
We have done DNA testing and find our matches come up empty with the exception of a Herbert Collins who is a very close match to Martin, and is from Spartanburg SC. The researchers on Martin and Herbert have never been able to move past them up the tree. DNA was our only hope, and we matched up to several other people who had the following names (Marbury, Embry, Embree).
I would like to know if there has been a DNA study on this line of Collins in NC/GA? I keep running into Martin Collins' in this family. It is not a common name, and I have a strong suspicion that my Martin, and his close relative Herbert tie into this group in some manner.
Any insights or thoughts would be so greatly appreciated. We have been working on this for years.
p.s. This is the best summary of the Collins group in NC that I have ever found. it was nice to see the entire group tied together.
thanks for reading.
I am a descendant of Miller Collins, son of Ransom Collins. The list of children of Miller Collins and Delilah Ann Langford Collins is completely inaccurate, except for Susan Bell Collins, my great-grandmother. I have seen this error in other postings on the Collins family. I will gladly supply the correct names if you wish.
I found this today while searching for a William H Collins who is my 3rd great grandfather. I am trying to track down his father and haven't found anything. I think William H was born in McMinnville Tennessee and first appears on an 1860 census in Shelby county alabama. There are a bunch of Collins people that ended up in east alabama from georgia and I'm wondering if there is a connection here.
Thanks for the wonderful story about the Scarecorn Murders. My g g grandfather was Bailey Nalley, was part of the killings & fled the Nalley cabin with his father & mother, and little brother. No one left in our family has heard this story. Apparently Bailey married a Cherokee woman in TN after leaving GA with his parents & brother. They took a flatboat across TN & settled in Southern Illinois to farm (Elvira, Johnson Co.). Amazing that no one passed down this story (or how he got badly scarred from knife wounds). This really spices up my family history!
Bailey Nalley had several generations live in Southern Illinois after him. My parents moved from there and I live in Memphis, TN.
